Remembering 25 Years Ago—May 1982

May 7
Jose Ernesto Velásquez disappears after having been captured by National Investigations Directorate agents (DNI) and Treasury police at the Nicaraguan border in El Triunfo, Choluteca Department. He was returning to Honduras after having lived in Nicaragua for three years. According to a declassified CIA cable from 1985, Velasquez was kidnapped and executed by the Honduran Anti-Communist Liberation Army, a paramilitary group maintained by the DNI.

CIA cable # F-1998-01106, November 1985, "Honduran Leftists Executed by Honduran Anti-Communist Liberation Army Between 1980-1984."
